Fr. David Garcia will be reading from Pandemic Preaching: The Pulpit in a Year Like No Other, published in October, 2021. He is a San Antonio priest of forty-six years and well-known as rector of the historic San Fernando Cathedral, director of the World Heritage Old Spanish Missions, and Senior Advisor to Catholic Relief Services. A Fellow at both Harvard and Notre Dame Universities, he brings a wealth of theology and pastoral experience as well as civic engagement to his preaching. This book is the result of many requests to publish his homilies.
Naomi Shihab Nye will be reading from. The Turtle of Michigan is a novel that follows a young boy named Aref as he travels from Muscat, Oman, to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and adjusts to a new life and a new school in the United States. It was published in March 2022. She describes herself as a “wandering poet.” She has spent more than 40 years traveling the country and the world to lead writing workshops and inspire students of all ages.
Simran Jeet Singh will be reading from The Light We Give: How Sikh Wisdom Can Transform Your Life, released in July 2022. He is the Executive Director of the Aspen Institute’s Program on Religion & Society. Recognized among TIME Magazine’s sixteen people fighting for a more equal America, he is a Soros Equality Fellow with the Open Society Foundations, Senior Adviser on Equity and Inclusion for YSC Consulting, and a Visiting Professor at Union Seminary. Simran is a regular contributor to TIME, CNN, and The Washington Post and a monthly columnist for Religion News Service. He lives with his family in New York City, but he’s from San Antonio.
Mario Marcel Salas will be reading from The Alamo: A Cradle of Lies, Slavery, and White Supremacy, published in April, 2022. He is a retired Assistant Professor of Political Science, having taught Texas Politics, Federal Politics, Political History, the Politics of Mexico, African American Studies, Civil Rights, and International Conflicts. He has served as a City Councilman for the City of San Antonio and was very active in the Civil Rights Movement in SNCC for many years. 2022. He was a 2018 San Antonio Peace Laureate.
